Beth Orton’s The Ground Above

In 1999, Beth Orton’s album, Central Reservation was a tempest in my experience of music. I’m sure I discovered her care of Lilith Fair, and I was elated to hear that a new album was coming. The Ground Above offers eight leisurely tracks featuring her siren call with a signature rasp, which has only evolved in richness and nuance over the past 30 years. This is a most welcome return.
