The Weekend Read No. 20
Let the distractions begin!
Oof, busy days ahead with all these goodies.
BOOKS
The American Short Story Collection: The Nineteenth Century
A Library of America Boxed Set
I’m not normally one to tuck in for short stories but this gorgeous boxed set (the best two words in the English language) is calling out to me. The font is a big part of it. Must. Need. Want. I will gush over it more once I get my paws on it.
Devout: Losing My Faith to Find Myself
by David Archuleta
Boy, I would have loved to have David on the podcast, but you can’t win them all. The memoir is described as:
A raw and powerful coming-out story from the beloved American Idol finalist traces David Archuleta’s journey from closeted Mormon teen to global pop star to openly queer man, revealing the hidden pressures of fame, the weight of religious expectations, and the courage it takes to live authentically.
Podcast Episode 39: Grant Ginder
The latest podcast episode with Grant Ginder, who writes about adult friendships with comedy and honest in equal doses. He also has things to say about the Whole Foods music playlist which make a lot of sense.
TELEVISION
How to Get to Heaven From Belfast
Netflix
From the creator of Derry Girls, my chums are on me to watch this cheeky new series.
MUSIC
Andrew Bird: “Need Someone”
An original song from the last episode of The Pitt has got people talking this week. Not that I need more reasons to watch the show but I’ll take ‘em.
Jessie Ware: “Ride”
I had completely forgotten that Jessie Ware makes music! Where does she find the time away from the podcast with her mum interviewing all those celebrities! Well, we’re more than happy to have her back on the radio for this new album that arrives next month - though apparently it’s already hitting more than a few dance floors.
Bon weekend, all!
